Pizza, Video, and Make Your Own Sundaes!

Dear Parents,
Your children have earned a second pizza/video party!  This is very hard to do: they have built two compliment chains stretching to the tray of the white board.  That’s a lot of compliments from staff members, specials teachers, the principal, and me. I’m so proud of them!  Pizza will be $1.00/slice.  The sundae “stuff” is my treat.  Please send pizza money in by Monday, June 7th. Your child may also wear something comfy (I’m not sure how summer p.j’s will work…) and bring a stuffed animal.  This will be fun!

I have read the book Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo to the class and they really enjoyed it.  We have talked about the themes of the book, literary devices, and character development as we read the book.  I would like to show the video to the class on Monday, but  it is rated PG.  We don’t usually show PG movies at school.  If you would rather your child does not watch this movie, please let me know by Friday.  I have included a link to a review of the movie.
Thanks,
Amy Jurewicz

Our very important celebration of our year long work in writing takes place next week – May 24-28.  Our class will tour parents and important visitors on: Tuesday, May 25th.

Everywhere you look, descriptive and rich and meaningful words will be displayed on lockers, walls, windows, and doorways.  Our published books from this year and years past will be on display in the rotunda.

Each writer’s story is published in a class anthology (collection) that is available for purchase (shipped directly to your home) or free download.  To see these books, visit the LULU link on the front of our school blog look for our class link on this link:  ABOUT OUR WRITING JOURNEY

We’re hoping for great weather on Friday, May 21st for our class to take a trip to Kirk Park and Hemlock Crossing.  We’ll be leaving school at 9:00 and we’ll head for Kirk Park for some games and a hot dog cookout.  After that, we’ll get on the buses and head to Hemlock Crossing for a nature walk and a presentation about ecosystems.  We’ll return to school at about 2:15.

The cost for all this fun is just $2.00 per student.  This will cover the charge from Ottawa County Parks for the presentation and also some of the food.  Please send this money in with your child by Wednesday, May 19th.

We would love to have parents accompany us for this trip.  There should be plenty of room on the buses for you to ride with us.  Please let me know if you’ll be joining us.

My name is Alison V. and the book that I read is My Secret War by Mary Pope Osborne and it is a historical fiction book.  I chose this book because I like books that are about things that happened in the past.  I liked the ending of this book.  This story was based on a girl whose dad was fighting in the World War 2.  This book was very interesting.

If you haven’t heard, one of the most important all school celebrations is fast approaching.  The week of May 24-28 is our opportunity for all the writers in our school to be heard and celebrated.

The week is organized into grade level celebrations which include tours of locker stories,  tours of posted poster stories displayed throughout the building, and a scavenger hunt.  Parents and special guests are invited to attend these events. Our grade level will be celebrating on May 25  from 2:15-3:00.  Please report to our classroom at that time.  We will talk through the tour schedule, appropriate behavior, and then begin the tour.

JWSchedule

In addition to the tours of student writing pieces (displayed on lockers) and specially selected poster stories on display throughout the hallways, the rotunda will also be filled with published classroom anthologies. We will be publishing a class anthology to lulu.com.  Once the publication is complete, I will share the link so you can download a free copy or order a professional copy.

We also have a tradition of wearing specially designed Just Write T-Shirts on that day.  If you would like to purchase one for your child, you can download the order form and send this into the office.  Just Write T-Shirt Order Form Orders are accepted now  through May 5.

If you would like to view a photo video from last years celebration, visit the MAY 2009 blog post.

We look forward to celebrating our writing work with you.

Spring Carnival

Our Spring Carnival is on Saturday, May 15, 2010.  This is a favorite time for Georgetown families to join together in a day of fun and fundraising.

This year all proceeds from the carnival will be donated to the Lamers Family. This is one special family that is in dire need.  Currently, the Lamers Family is financially struggling with medical expenses incurred with their son, Brodie, who has Cerebral Palsy, a paralyzing medical condition.  This family needs to make accommodations to their home as well as purchase a handicap accessible van for Brodie. In addition to Brodie, Tisha and Matthew have three children to support. In today’s economy, this has been quite a challenge.

The Parent Club would appreciate a donation from ALL of our students.

We are asking for fourth-grade students to bring in:

2 Liters of Pop for the Carnival Pop Toss Game

All 2 liters of Pop should be dropped off to the school office by Friday, 05/14/2010 by 4:00 PM.

If you have cares or concerns, please contact Susie Coxen 669-3662 or Stacey Alexander 914-6896.
